The Story County Amateur Radio Club is hosting a field operating event during the 2018 Iowa QSO Party on September 15th from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the shelter at Lloyd Kurtz Park (located at Bloomington Road and Hyde Avenue). The original plan was to use the shelter at Ada Hayden Lake, but we moved to Lloyd Kurtz Park due to the large number of mosquitos at Ada Haden.

We will be operating as a Bonus Station for the contest and handing out bonus points as we will be set up Field Day style with temporary antennas and a portable HF station. Unlike Field Day, this will be a much more low-key event with no scheduled operator time slots, no scheduled meals, and no generators. There may be some minor antenna setup on Friday afternoon, but most setup activity will happen Saturday morning around 8 am. Given that this area is heavily used by the community for recreation, we expect to need extra people around just to greet the public and answer questions.
Anyone and everyone is invited to stop by for as little or as much of the event as you would like. Bring your lawn chair, pack a cooler and invite your family to stop by for a picnic lunch. Grab that friend you've been trying to recruit and show them what HF communications can do. Heard about Field Day and contesting but have never participated? Here's your chance to get a taste of the operating experience. Please join us for what we hope will be a fun, relaxed contest station in the field.
