The next meeting of the Story County Amateur Radio Club will be at 7:30 pm, Thursday, December 5, 2013. The meeting will be in Conference Room D next to Bessie Meyers Auditorium on the first floor of Mary Greeley Medical Center (MGMC). The closest parking is in the lot north of the ER and ambulance garage. Enter through the North Door where MGMC meets McFarland Clinic.
The program will be Skip Walter’s report of his trip to the 2013 Pacific Northwest DX Convention, held in Spokane in August.
Skip and his brother, Don (W7NG), drove Don’s 1939 La Salle from his home in Seattle, to Spokane and back, through Stevens Pass and White Pass, without use of Interstate highways. The travelogue part of the report will include sightseeing at 55 mile-long Lake Chelan, ice-age remnant Dry Falls, and Coulee Dam. Ham radio contacts were made from 5 counties along the way and from a hotel room in Spokane. The convention featured presentations on the sun spot cycle, amateur radio license call signs, 6 meter operation from the Clipperton Island DX-pedition, amateur radio in Japan and Thailand and the Carribean, and hints for making DX contacts.
